South Carolina’s history, especially along its coastline, is full of stories about individuals who risked everything to fight for their freedom. Now is the time to bring that fight to Columbia.
Julie believes government does not belong in private decisions between South Carolinians and our doctors. Legislators should be passing policies which improve options for maternal health, enable medical cannabis to be available as a non-opioid pain medication, and add insurance options for the working poor.
It is upsetting to realize the same year , the 2023 March of Dimes' report on maternal and infant health gave SC an "F", the Republican majority in our state senate passed SC's extreme abortion ban. The Republican men of the senate did not listen to the female "Sister Senators" (3 Republicans, 1 Democratic, and 1 Independent); the calls, letters, and emails from women in their districts; and the testimonies of patients and doctors sharing their stories of pain and loss, These men decided that they deserved to make decisions for pregnant women even though none of them have ever been pregnant. Now, with one of the most restrictive laws in the country, the people of South Carolina will have less access to urgent miscarriage management care. They will be forced to reveal details of their most traumatic experiences should they become pregnant following an attack on their bodies. And women with mental health conditions that could be aggravated or left untreated during pregnancy will have no options. There are legitimate concerns that access to birth control and IVF are also being threatened. Julie knows the people of SC deserve better from their lawmakers. She will listen to, step up, and work for all of us.

Our district's infrastructure and natural environment deserve a champion who recognizes the challenges created by coastal growth pressures, rising water levels, stronger and more frequent storms. and hotter temperatures.
The iconic beauty of this district looks great on a postcard, but our problems can no longer be ignored. It’s time for the SC Senate to deliver the proactive and resilient infrastructure solutions needed along our entire coast.
Land along the coast is not a commodity asset which is interchangeable with real estate across the county. Some land is better for development than others and development rights are not the only assets of value in our region. Understanding an area's historical and cultural assets is so important and efforts must be made to protect these assets as well. This starts by listening to the people who are currently living or have cultural roots in our coastal communities and acknowledging their rights to speak and vote for their needs.
Julie and her company has spent the past 25 years sharing information and inviting engagement for major land planning and bridge construction projects such as: the Cooper River Bridge, US 17 Widening in Beaufort and Colleton Counties, the Port Access Road, the Charleston City Plan, and the Charleston Water Plan. She knows where there are opportunities for improvements, and ways to make the most of recent federal incentives and investments. She believes respect for local knowledge and input must be at the heart of public service.

Our tax dollars are our investments into the future of our state. Encouraging and investing in small businesses and small children can deliver big returns. Let's look for ways to remove obstacles to their thriving.
In all of her work with public agencies and taxpayer funds, Julie has never forgotten the responsibility that comes with allocating public resources fairly and transparently. When Julie says she will work for us, she means all of us.
As a small business owner, angel investor, and a mother, Julie recognizes money is not always the only determinant of success. "Overnight sensations " usually take years of foundational work. Milestones along the way come with their own issues such as: adding the second employee, acquiring a new location or piece of equipment, getting necessary approvals/certifications, or managing customer cycles. One of the biggest challenges faced by business owners, investors, and even parents is managing risks. Nothing in life is risk free, but we also cannot spending so much time and money managing risks that we create more problems and lose faith in each other.
Solutions are rarely one and done. They require an awareness of how the pieces work for or against each other. For example, parents working at one small business need other businesses such as childcare. Providing childcare requires caregivers who need to cover attainable housing costs and transportation costs. As one piece of the system moves others are impacted. Julie is constantly asking, how can government policies and expenditures enhance the ecosystem rather than thwart it.
