A problem solver, Julie listens deeply to those who are most impacted and inviting everyone to share their perspectives and experiences through one-on-one conversations, meetings, and even public hearings (yes, there is such a thing as a person who enjoys meetings).
A self starter, Julie has built several business and supported many more as an angel investor. Those businesses have included: Cofer and Company, a family real estate management company; the Workshops at Howard Heights, a coworking space for craftspeople and messy artists - one of which is Bill's Custom Woodworking, started by her husband Bill; and Civic Communications, LLC, the premier public information and engagement consultant for publicly funded infrastructure planning and construction projects in the Lowcountry. She invests with Charleston Angel Partners, Venture South, VITALIZE Angels, Play Money, and Carofin.
A servant leader, Julie has offered at least eight thousand hours of her time and strategic thinking to her neighborhood, her children's schools, democracy, and social justice issues. She served all of the children of this state as the vice-chair of the board for SC's early childhood education agency, SC First Steps, including driving to Columbia for every board and committee meeting.
An admiring mother, Julie and her husband Bill have raised two amazing sons - one who is a midshipman at the US Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY and the other who is a Sophomore at Clemson studying bio-chemistry.
